The Gaslight League is a young and young-at-heart donors' social club organized for the support of Victoria Mansion, a National Historic Landmark and historic house museum in Portland, Maine. Named after the Mansion's remarkable original 19th century gas lighting fixtures, the League is a diverse and creative group of history buffs, cocktail enthusiasts, and young professionals. We gather for events that celebrate the uniqueness of Victoria Mansion, including educational talks, happy hours, group outings, special tours, and exclusive signature parties like our annual Halloween Steampunk Masquerade and our New Year's Eve Soiree.
Victoria Mansion is one of America's most important surviving houses of the mid-nineteenth century. A masterpiece of architecture and interior design, the Mansion retains more than ninety percent of its original interiors by famed cabinetmaker and designer Gustave Herter, as well as original wall and ceiling paintings by Italian artist Giuseppe Guidicini, some of the only surviving works of his prolific career.
All of the Gaslight League's parties and membership dues support the work to preserve and restore Victoria Mansion and to share it with the public. More detail is available at Victoria Mansion's website.
